Creative: Paintings and Illustrations by Soumitra Mandal

Soumitra Mandal, a postgraduate student of English in the Vidyasagar University, is a young artist who has learnt painting and illustration under the guidance and care of Barun Sahoo. Soumitra loves representing a world of nature in which human figures do not make an intrusion and are a part of the entire cosmic canvass with colours and shades and lines striving at harmony. His background as a student of English literature must have influenced this kind convergence of the natural, human and animal world. A concern for the environmental imbalance can also be found in his works. While drawing illustrations his subject range from the projection of contemporary political and social scene to the rendering of primitive expression of art.

He participated and was adjudged first in the following events:

1.     Cartooning, National Youth Festival, 2008-2009, organized by Association of Indian Universities and Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal, India.
