CFP: Special Issue on “Contemporary East and Southeast Asian Literary and Cultural Studies”

Eds: Dr. Jeremy de Chavez & Dr. Zhang Yue. University of Macau, China

This special issue seeks original research focused on the cultures of East and/or Southeast Asia and their associated diasporic communities. This issue is committed to offering a platform to emerging voices; so we would particularly welcome submissions from early and mid-career scholars and advanced graduate students, more so if their work demonstrates an attempt to meaningfully engage with the concerns of the region by foregrounding methods that aim to problematize Eurocentric perspectives. While this issue would prefer comparative approaches in the analysis of contemporary cultural texts, submissions that examine texts from within a national tradition will also be considered. We welcome articles that engage with issues and debates about, but not limited to, the following:

  • Migration
  • Translation
  • Identity
  • Imperialism
  • Decolonization
  • Postcoloniality
  • Indigeneity
  • Inequality
  • Space and Place
  • (Trans)nationalism
  • Neoliberalism
  • Globalization
  • Gender/ sexuality
  • Popular Culture
  • New Media
  • Digital Humanities
  • The Anthropocene
  • Mobility
  • Aesthetics
